ASSISTENT/ Anthologiya Sovremennoi Sotsialnoi Istorii Estestvennih Nauk i Tekhniki (Anthology of Modern Social History of Natural Science and Technology) Discription: Column task is to acquaint the Internet users with the main results, ideas and research methods of modern, in particular Russian, history of natural sciences and technology. The necessity for such an acquaintance stems from the fact that during the recent 2-3 decades this field of knowledge has been drawing special attention of not only scientists and researchers but also sociologists, philosophers, political scientists, and, finally, the general public interested in the history of origination and development of sciences and their role in the Western civilization coming into being. Higher school professors and secondary school teachers are especially interested in the subject. The history of science, in one way or another, has been included into curricula of many schools. Besides, one of the most significant trends of modern secondary and higher education has become humanitarization of teaching natural sciences which means formulation of integral image of science inexorably associated with social and cultural processes. While preparing such programs teachers face the acute shortage of material that can not be overcome by the traditional programs of history of individual sciences, often obsolete and incomplete. Taking into account al the above, ASSISTENT column is oriented, first of all, on the teachers and students who will find the materials for theses, historical reviews and essays, educational programs development and maintenance, etc. In view of this, the major place in the column is given to the abstracts of historical research papers published in current research journals and year-books: "Voprosi istorii estestvoznaniya i tekhniki" (VIET, "Problems of History of Natural Science and Technology"), "Istoriko-astronomicheskiye issledovaniya" ("Historical Astronomical Research"), "Istoriko-matematicheskiye issledovaniya" ("Historical Mathematical Research"), "Uspekhi fizicheskikh nauk" ("Progress of Physical Sciences") and others. It should be mentioned that readers are suggested the papers abstracts rather than annotations so they could not only get the idea of papers but also to obtain the most important information containing in them. Besides the abstracts you'll find data on the major Russian historians of science and technology, conferences, books in print, continuous workshops, major sections of scientific periodicals, etc. Each abstract is supplied with the detailed SUBJECT HEADINGS INDEX to enable you to obtain additional information on the subject of your interest. |
