IRBIS
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
- Support of any number of databases;
- Maximum number of records in one database - 16 000 000;
- Variable length of fields and records, providing compact data storage;
- Automated technology of creating dictionaries that enable direct search by all bibliographic elements;
- Support of graphics and full text;
- USMARC and UNIMARC formats compatibility. USMARC-UNIMARC and UNIMARC-USMARC converters are available;
- Uniform solution for creating Web-server with links to IRBIS databases;
The system operates in LAN or on a standalone PC under Windows 95/98/NT or UNIX (LINUX, FreeBSD).
It has 5 modules: Acquisition, Cataloging, Circulation, User, Administrator. All modules have menu-driven and hot key interface.
ACQUISITION
- Primary entry of concise bibliographic data and other types of data (subscription cards and order lists for current and next year subscription statistics);
- Transfer of records to OPAC;
CATALOGING
- Bibliographic description in UNIMARC format;
- A set of worksheets for different types of bibliographic description;
- Collective descriptions of serials edition, including information on access to all issues and a separate issue description;
- Linguistic processing (classifying, subject indexing) including the subject navigation through the subject heading dictionary and/or the thesaurus;
- One-off processing of multi-volume publications;
- A set of data entry facilities with menus, directories, dictionaries, embedded worksheets;
- Control of individual bibliographic elements and of full description;
- The automatic duplication check;
- Links from bibliographic description to graphic data and full texts of documents;
- A variety of output bibliographic descriptions forms;
- Search facilities with further editing and copying possibilities.
CIRCULATION
- Easy and convenient processing and control of requests;
- Current information on the available copies;
- Control of the borrowed items and the borrowers;
- Circulation statistics, e.g. overdue and loan information;
- Bar coding circulation technology.
USER
- User-friendly interface;
- A set of search options enabling quick search (by direct access via dictionaries) in the Electronic Catalog databases by all main bibliographic elements and their combinations;
- Non-paper technology of requests.
ADMINISTRATOR
A workstation for system administrator monitoring and controlling database maintenance.
