English for Beginners Abstract. This is an intensive English-language course for everyday communication. It is oriented to people striving to learn English individually. The course’s subject scope envelops virtually all aspects of everyday use and is based on the minimum necessary set of words and expressions. Dialog is used intensively and opens up opportunities for speech practice. The course is based on an integrated approach to training: the principle of moving from simple to complicated is implemented in every lesson and in the course in general. Every lesson deals with phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, and has a set of drills and games. The disk contains a reference book on phonetics, the vocabulary, and the topical dictionary of the course. Individual work becomes efficient through the disk’s multimedia capabilities: an individual approach in studying new material; the in-built system of the evaluation of exercises; recording through a microphone of lexical units and dialogs for their further comparison with the model. The material was sounded by American professional commentators. The course includes 22 topical lessons like acquaintance; weather, leisure, and sports; dialogs with a waiter, a taxi-driver, and a salesman; talking on the phone, and many other situations. The course has exercises of 12 types: games with words and dialogs; training pronunciation and grammar in games; new words-games, spelling, crosswords; pronunciation-training; dialogs-reading a new dialog, learning it, missed-words game, building sentences, restoring the dialog; grammar-training of grammar constructions.
