Abstract. This is the first Russian multimedia encyclopedia which is dedicated to the main trends in modern popular music. It contains information about Russian and foreign musicians and groups most famous in the second half of the 20th century; styles and tendencies in popular music; the development of the so-called light genres in modern culture. The encyclopedia contains over 11000 articles; the biographies of 2000 musicians; nearly 40 video; over 1070 illustrations; over 130 songs and musical compositions; chronological tables on the history of Russian and foreign rock music; a glossary of musical terms. Most of the biographical articles are supplemented with a selected discography and, sometimes, a selected bibliography. Disk 2 is supplemented with 23 best Russian video.

The encyclopedia is equipped with a ramified retrieval system that allows placing bookmarks in the articles for subsequent reference and retrieval in the alphabetic and subject indices, by keyword in reference sections, by styles and genres, by epochs and countries, by album names, and by the type of media illustrations.
