Russian Military Coat Description. CD contains the database on history of Russian military coat, including images and descriptions of Russian military coat of the epoch of Nicholas I reign. CD is designed on the basis of collections of iconographic materials at Russian State Library for Arts. Generalized descriptions of military dress and detailed images constitute a valuable resource illustrating esthetic, historic and economic situation in the society and could serve as illustration of the particular epoch. The illustrated material on CD is presented with works by artists P. Rudakov, G. Verne and L. Belousov, as well as by the group of artists headed by A. Viskovatov. For preparation of material for CD the dress was classified the way supposed to reflect evolution the coats presented in drawings by artists, whose works are included into the database by epochs, periods and decades. All images are presented as files with the extension of 300 dpi. This format was used to provide maximum quality of scanned images with minimum memory on the disk. The software by the Russian National Public Library for Science and Technology, IRBIS library automation system, was used. Corresponding to the records format each description includes the reference to the body of troops; years of the special military uniform introduction; years until the coat was in use in the army. Each additional note contains following details: officers’ rank, type of the uniform (dress coat, marching uniform, winter uniform, etc.) as well as marching touch.
