Abstract: Spectroscopic characteristics of the crystal (Gd, Ca) (Ca, Mg, Zr) Ga O alloyed by Cr ions are investigated within a wide temperature range. Parameters of the crystal field of the octahedral symmetry are calculated and the energy gap between the T and E states of Cr ions in this crystal is determined. The generation on crystal (Ga, Ca) (Ga, Mg, Zr) Ga O :Cr is obtained for the first time both under the valve excitation and under the pumping of ruby laser radiation. The generation efficiency in case of valve excitation is 0.08. The maximum value of the differential efficiency of the conversion of the ruby laser radiation is 12 at the energy of converted radiation 0.17 J. The spectral range of the generated radiation covers the band width from 774 to 814 nanometres.
